the best way to enjoy your week is to planet
make the most of what you’ve got

We are all connected to the universe we inhabit. Plants provide us with fresh air to breathe, the moon controls the ebb and flow of the oceans’ tides, and Earth’s angle and proximity to the sun affects our crops, day lengths and general moods. Why is it then that so few people acknowledge the impact of the planets we share a solar system with?

I have studied astrology since high school and became fascinated with how planetary placements can impact the energy here on Earth. Each planet has an energetic symbolism ascribed to it which not only can influence our day to day life based on proximity, but also manifests itself into different human-made materials and concepts. For example: Mars is associated with action, movement, motivation, and ambition. If you’re into astrology you’ll know that Mars is the planet that rules over fiery and impulsive Aries, as well as the secretive and deeply intentional Scorpio. It’s associated with the color red, and because of its orientation toward vital action it is considered to rule over the blood, muscles, head, and genitals of the body.

If you look deeply enough, there is a corresponding planet for almost everything, and what I find most intriguing is how you can use these energies to your advantage. Like how when someone needs a bit of luck they can turn to the crystal Tiger’s Eye associated with the luckiest planet (Jupiter) and carry it around in their pocket. Even if it’s what most would consider “placebo,” symbols and rituals translate thought into action, allowing your intentions to manifest into the physical world.

Recently I’ve been passionate about how planets correspond to days of the week, and the ways it can allow me to organize my time by assimilating to the energetic flow of each day. By tapping into these vibrations, I feel more intentional about my actions and why I’m taking them. I’d like to share with you how I view each day of the week based on their corresponding planets. I've also included a simplified summary of Celestial Advice for each day. However, these are my specific associations and theories based on lots of reading and personal experience. I encourage everyone to look at your personal reactions to this information and wield it to activate intentionality in your day-to-day life.

Sunday - Sun

Celestial Advice: celebrate yourself, dress for your inner child, instant gratification encouraged.

Sundays are probably the most literal of the days of the week, as it is ruled by the Sun and simply stated so. The Sun is associated with the Self, meaning identity, ego, heart, health, and vitality. Long before I developed my strategy for planetary daily action my best friend shared her personal philosophy that Sundays were her day, and she never did anything she didn’t want to do on a Sunday (she has two Leo placements, are we really surprised). This very much coincides with how I now treat this day of the week. I like to spend Sundays eating well, reading, going for walks, and having meaningful conversations about my intentions for the day/week ahead. If I have a hunch or a desire I follow it to completion. This past Sunday I had a craving for a restaurant in my new neighborhood that I hadn’t yet tried, so I declared that is the one thing I wanted to do with my day, and I did it, and I felt satisfied. Sundays are for simplicity, helped along by a refusal to overcomplicate and a rejection of obligation. This is the day to sleep in, to nap if you’re tired, to read if you’re curious, to check in with yourself by journaling your resolutions and goals, and enjoy yourself all the while. Because of the pure energy of Sundays, I have started treating them as the first day of the week instead of Monday, because with that mental adjustment lies the implication that the start of each week is for me, and I get to set the tone for how I move forward. Sunday is not the end of the weekend but the beginning of a new journey and I have the privilege and responsibility to decide how it starts. Do it for yourself.

Monday - Moon

Celestial Advice: connect with the divine, don’t fight your feelings, stay hydrated, wear white.

The most turbulent of days, widely hated by nine-to-fivers and lasagna loving orange cats, Monday is truly misunderstood. Mondays are ruled by the Moon, which rules over your emotions which are ever-changing, like the tides that she also controls. This day is meant for tending to the deep well that exists within you by taking stock of your feelings and simply letting yourself feel them. This is why I can’t subscribe to the idea of Monday as the first day of the week - it’s my personal belief that it is easier to confront my emotions after establishing a solid base, by dedicating the day prior to active acknowledgement of my sense of Self. The natural progression follows that the next day, an emotional response will be unearthed. In order to respect these feelings I allow my intuition to guide me on Mondays in a much softer way than I did the day before (intuition vs. instinct). The Moon is often referred to as the Mother, and therefore a day under her influence requires self-nurturing - baths, facemasks, housework, laundry, watercolor painting, naps, stream-of-consciousness journaling, and drinking lots and LOTS of water. Emotions can be complicated and this Moon-ruled day serves you best when you uncomplicate them: see them, feel them, have a cup of tea and find comfort in knowing that you can’t define even the best of your feelings. Just go with it.

Tuesday - Mars

Celestial Advice: tune in to your physical body, dress boldly, dig your hands in the dirt, utilize profanities.

To balance out the passivity of an emotive Monday, the next day requires work to ground you once more. Ruled by Mars, Tuesday is alllll about the physical, and gives you the opportunity for a healthy outlet for all of the feelings you sat with the day before. This is the day you want to harness your energy and push it out into the world. It’s a great day for getting your blood pumping whether through intense cardio or a scary movie, blood is ruled by Mars and anything that boosts circulation is a way to honor its physical manifestation. Although associated with bodily activity, another way I like to take advantage of a Mars-ruled day is by checking things off of my to-do list (also very Saturnian but we’ll get there), especially simple tasks that are easy to procrastinate because I’ve deemed them undesirable. Taking out the trash, doing the dishes, cleaning my cat’s litter box, and paying bills are all things I associate with Tuesday activities, which are made easier with the blasting of hyperpop rage music while I complete them. An important aspect of this day is knowing when the body has had enough. Yes, it’s a great day for channeling your bodily energy into action, but I’ve found my most successful Tuesdays are accomplished by resting just as much as I move. Or if my body is in a condition where rigorous physical activity isn’t logical I will simply stretch a bit and guide my active energy toward other channels. Moving and sweating and pushing your physical form may be the most literal translation for a Mars-ruled day, but listening and respecting your body’s needs no matter what they are is paramount to protect yourself on a day that thrives on intensity. Stay in touch.

Wednesday - Mercury

Celestial Advice: chit chat with strangers, share your writing, clash patterns, text long distance friends, commit to nothing.

Wednesdays hold a special place in my heart, as I was born on a Wednesday and its fickle energy can either leave me feeling on top of the world or at the bottom of the barrel. Famous for its debilitating retrogrades, Mercury is the planet that rules Wednesdays. It also rules over the zodiac’s Geminis and Virgos and is associated with communication, trickery, divination, technology, ideas and thinking thinking thinking thinking thinking. There is a reason why successful podcasts often release their episodes on Wednesdays, and why I publish my blog posts on Wednesdays. It is a day for transmitting ideas, and sharing thoughts as well as receiving them. Wednesdays are my favorite day to write (although I do try to write every single day), and usually my most successful days for writing. I love to tap into the Mercurial energy of Wednesdays by texting friends I don’t see on a day-to-day basis. I feel our conversations flow more easily and they are more likely to spiral into different thought provoking subjects than on any other day. Wednesdays are great for non-confrontational contradiction, appreciating the similarities between polarities, and googling synonyms. I love to read on Wednesdays just so I can think about what I’ve read and maybe share it with a friend to get their perspective. A Mercury-ruled day is for this and for that, for a spicy meal followed by ice cream, journaling with subject specificity, question oriented tarot readings, and never letting them know your next move. Embrace the whimsy.

Thursday - Jupiter

Celestial Advice: play board games, wear gold, keep your eyes peeled, take a chance, spend money.

The ever-elusive Jupiter rules our Thursdays. Associated with travel, good fortune, miracles, growth, education and religion, the vibes on Thursday are particularly spiritual. I hold firmly that Thursdays have a magical energy that enjoys being harnessed through spontaneity. All that glitters can be gold on a day ruled by such powerful optimism and trust in the universe. This is a day to accept same-day invitations, go thrifting with nothing particular in mind, explore your nearby parks, and make note of spiritual symbolism (for me - bunnies, stars, king charles spaniels, the song “Young Folks” to name a few). This is NOT a day for keeping your nose buried in your phone or placing harsh rules and restrictions on yourself. Thursdays are best for talking to the wind, bird watching, oracle-reading based not on questions but simply on vibes, and verbal manifestations. It is common to liken Jupiterian energy to that of a Wizard which is exactly how I believe one should move throughout a Thursday. Partake in side-quests knowing that the journey is the reward, mix together herbs and powders to make a healing elixir and drink it all at once, and partake in philosophical thinking - the “why’s” will make you wise. Thursdays are naturally abundant and all it takes is your respectful participation (NOT impatient demands)  in order to reap the benefits. Expect nothing, and hope for the best.

Friday - Venus

Celestial Advice: primp, indulge, feast, recline, give thanks, rest, repeat.

Fridays have always been my favorite day of the week by far. Yes, the excitement and release into the weekend has always electrified me since my school days, but it goes far beyond the gratification of a week well-done. Friday is ruled by sensual Venus, which also happens to rule my Sun, Rising, Mercury, and Mars sign - Taurus (it also rules Libra, but this is about ME). Venusian energy is rooted in pleasure: a mouth watering meal followed by dessert, another drink - if you don’t mind, jazz music by candlelight, velvet and cashmere and silk and suede, and knowing you earned these well deserved delights. I love to spend my Fridays with one objective in mind: to indulge. I wear my comfiest outfit to work, I snuggle with my cat and girlfriend in our light pink bedding once I get home, and then if I have my way, I take my time doing my hair and make up and drinking wine while I beautify myself for a night out. I like to feel sexy on Fridays, and so I dress up in clothes that empower me, prioritizing comfort all the while. Then I spend the night ordering fancy cocktails and desserts and okay, maybe one more because the conversation is delightful and I just don’t want the night to end. If I’m not going out I like to go full sleepover mode - silky pajamas, an abundance of snacks, mood lighting, and a lineup of beautifully shot movies to react to while I recline on the couch. Fridays are for feeeeeeling the vibes and making yourself at home in them. Indulge in the fantasy.

Saturday - Saturn

Celestial Advice: work hard, play harder, wear black, set yourself up and then set yourself off.

The final day of my week is all about balance. Although the ruler of Saturday, Saturn, is typically associated with cold calculation, goal-oriented madness, and financial frugality, I find that to be a narrow perspective which misses half the story. Maybe it’s my Capricorn (Saturn-ruled) moon, but I feel the structural rigidity that defines Saturnian energy is necessary in order to partake in the hedonism of the weekend. If we don’t have boundaries, then how far will we go? If we don’t eat a proper meal, then what will happen after bottomless mimosas at the drag brunch? I like to think of my Saturdays as a system of checks and balances - in order to enjoy myself properly I have to set myself up for success and remove any possible stressors and/or roadblocks. I find Saturday mornings are best spent partaking in obligations that will only benefit my personal health and well being. Creating a list of two or three non-negotiable tasks ahead of the weekend and then completing them Saturday morning leaves me feeling satisfied and productive enough to truly take delight in the rest of my day. And then I can do whatever the f*ck I want to do - because I’ve already taken care of my needs. Give structure to your Saturday. Eat three square meals, drink water, clean out your closet, wipe down the microwave, do what it takes to feel you have accomplished something and then go wild. Spend the day at the beach, leave for the club at midnight, play cards for hours at a dimly lit bar, wear tight black leather, listen to Charli xcx and speak your mind. Build a ladder and climb it, the view will be fantastic.
