This weekend my beautiful partner reflected on why she loves to watch the water ripple and move - she said that we can learn a lot about ourselves and our nature by observing the way water moves and changes, the patterns it makes and such. I came to think about this more as I walked to work this morning. When water flows, it can very rarely be stopped, and when it is stopped it takes a great amount of force or unnatural man made structures.

This is much like our spirit. When obstacles - such as a rock or a log - stick themselves in the path of a flowing river, the river does not stop flowing. Rather, it is redirected; it must go right or left or under or over. When there is an obstacle in our path, we are never truly stopped - our spirit must carry onward in the experience, just taking a different route. So, as always, it’s a matter of perspective. Whatever the obstacle was - whether it was meant to teach us a lesson or if it was just a neutral force beyond our control, we have no choice but to move around it. It is not a red light but a roundabout. I like to think that the force of our momentum, our belief and faith and trust in the process, can help push us in the direction that is best for us, but that is also subjective. We are welcomed to make the best of every situation - there are no “wrong” channels, only variations on a string of events that can be perceived as right or wrong. We must embrace the flow of the current, accept that obstacles do not literally have to be overcome, but rather adapted to. Our lives are malleable, our spirit in a constant state of flow. There are also certain portals that can rise from obstacles. I like to think of this as like a hollowed out log. We can only see that there is something in our way, and whilst flowing toward it we may feel resolved that we are to be redirected, but instead we are shot straight through the object - catapulted into newness rather than redirected. There are some events in life that can be perceived as obstacles but are placed in your path to propel you into a new state of being,  a new journey or a heightened reality.

The love of my life was right, there is a lot we can learn about the way of water. Today I am embracing the flow. I am not trying to force my place in any way, only following my spirit and trusting that faith can carry me forward. That my place in the stream of life is only dictated by my own perception, not my physical location.
